Since the NVDC opened its doors in September, 1995, Kathy Santa Barbara has assisted attorneys, lenders, vessel sellers and buyers, vessel owners, and ship builders, in documenting and re-documenting vessels with the NVDC. Our firm will quickly obtain Abstracts of Title or Certificates of Ownership to assist in pre-closing vessel status review. We assist attorneys who are not familiar with the documentation process in determining the necessary forms and attachments for use in a particular transaction, in interpreting Abstracts of Title, and reviewing forms, satisfactions, and mortgages for accuracy and recordability prior to filing with the NVDC. We regularly serve as escrow agent in buy-sell transactions, by receiving wired funds from the new purchaser and/or its lender and then wiring those funds to sellers and/or the seller’s lender. When a lender, buyer, or vessel owner needs assistance with reconstructing a chain of ownership, we know how to get this job done quickly and efficiently. We regularly serve as a depository of documents, and will file your documentation as soon as a vessel is located in “tax-friendly” State waters. Deletion from U.S. documentation for foreign registry, assistance with charter document review, and legal review of documents prepared by our clients, are among the services we provide.
